Use our stories

The Sierra Nevada Ally produces stories focused on civics, climate, and community. We make our stories available to like-minded, not-for-profit, no-paywall publications to reuse and share with their readers and audiences.

We encourage you to republish our original stories. We ask that you follow our guidelines, consistent with noncommercial Creative Commons licensing:

  • Give us credit clearly and visibly. At the top of your website, state: “This story (link to the story on the Sierra Nevada Ally’s website) was produced by the Sierra Nevada Ally, a nonprofit, nonpartisan news outlet focused on civics, climate, and culture.  The author’s byline should also be at the top: Author name, the Sierra Nevada Ally.
  • Link to the original article.
  • Do not sell or syndicate our work without permission.
  • Do not edit our content or headlines, except for minor changes to bring the content current and adhere to your publication’s preferred style guide.
  • Make every attempt to add the subhed’s text, but it’s not required.
  • Please add captions to images as written. 
  • If our story was originally published elsewhere, you will need to get the original creator’s permission with the message at the top, “This story was originally published by …” Include the author’s byline and the publication’s full name.
  • AP photos are not available for republication. In all cases, first, confirm that photos are available for use.
  • The Sierra Nevada Ally closely subscribes to the Society of Professional Journalists’ code of ethics.
