Nevada Democratic Party Statement on Senate GOP Lawsuit

a press release from the Nevada Democratic Party and NCN staff

In a Friday afternoon news dump, Nevada Senate Republicans filed a lawsuit challenging the removal of a corporate tax decrease that provides supplemental support for our public education system and funding an increase in school safety.

Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Molly Forgey released the following statement:

“Senate Republicans brought their partisan politics to a new level in their effort to give corporations a tax break. Despite the historically bipartisan support of this legislation, Republicans would rather give corporations a tax break than provide funding for supplemental support for our school districts and critical school safety measures. In contrast, Democrats funded the largest education budget in state history, invested marijuana tax dollars in public education, and updated a decades-old funding formula.

“From floating a statewide sales tax increase on consumers as an alternative to a corporate tax to now personally suing the state, Republicans continue to reinforce the very reason Nevada voters relegated them to the minority.”
